Amid speculation that Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will be forced to quit in the wake of Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hedge indicting him and others in his report on illegal mining, the news from the Bharatiya Janata Pary high command is that any decision in this regard will be taken only on Thursday.
"I am happy that justice has prevailed. I hope the government will be alive to having an institution like Lokayukta", he told reporters, recalling the trapping of Sampangi by Loakyukta sleuths when he was the Lokayukta.
the Union government said it was a matter for debate in the Parliament and the courts should not step into an issue which is exclusively within the domain of the legislature.
"If Sonia Gandhi admits in public that she does not like a vilification campaign then I would like to ask her why she hesitates to pull up her own colleagues who engage in such campaigns," said Justice Santosh Hegde, a member of the drafting committee of the Lokpal bill. Hedge threatened to quit on Thursday following statements from Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh, who had said that he (Hegde) had failed to control corruption in Karnataka.
